From 1 April 2023, patients in England can benefit from a Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) Prescription Prepayment Certificate (PPC), making HRT more affordable for those who need it long-term.
What is the HRT PPC?
The HRT PPC is a prescription exemption certificate that covers the cost of eligible HRT medicines for 12 months, regardless of how many items you need.
- Cost: £19.30 (as of 2025) – one-off annual payment
- Covers all eligible HRT medicines prescribed during the year
- Can be used alongside other PPCs or medical exemptions if needed
What Does It Cover?
The HRT PPC covers most commonly prescribed treatments for menopause symptoms, such as:
- Oestrogen-only patches, gels, tablets, or sprays
- Combined HRT (oestrogen + progestogen)
- Vaginal oestrogen products (pessaries, creams)
- Some progesterone medicines (if used as part of HRT)
